Information on Food Not Allowed to Enter China in April 2024

On June 3, 2024, General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) published the list of non-compliant food products in April 2024. A total of 278 batches of imported food from 38 countries/regions were rejected.

Most non-compliant imported food in April came from Ecuador (19.4%, all aquatic products), followed by Japan (9.7%, mostly snacks) and Australia (7.2%, mostly beef). The major reasons for import rejections were as follows:

l Discrepancy between cargo and certificate (23.0%)

l Excessive use of food additives/nutritional fortification substances (22.3%)

l Unqualified labeling (11.2%)

l Detection of animal epidemic diseases (10.8%)

l Lack of required documents or evidential materials (4.7%)

Noteworthy Products

1. Dairy products

Five batches of flavored modified milk from Austria were rejected for the improper use of food additives. Currently, the use of food additives should still conform to GB 2760-2014, and the new GB 2760-2024 will soon replace it from February 8, 2025.

2. Sports nutrition

Five batches of energy bars from Czech also failed customs clearance due to the non-compliance with the food additive standard.
